Telenor Initiates Hum Qadam, an Employees Volunteer Program

Telenor Pakistan has launched a nationwide Corporate Responsibility initiative Telenor Hum Qadam which is an employee volunteerism program under which Telenor Pakistan employees will volunteer a maximum of 16 working hours to community service activities during the year.

Building on the initiative that started in 2011, under which Telenor Pakistan’s employees contributed 45,000 hours towards community service, the primary focus areas of Telenor Hum Qadam this year include disability, education, health & environment and emergency response. Under this program Telenor Pakistan will primarily join hands with its partner organizations in these focus areas to provide community service opportunities to its employees.

Speaking about the initiative Aamer Izhar Ul Haq, Vice President Corporate Affairs & Security said, “Telenor Hum Qadam has twofold benefits; not only does it help us support the communities we operate in but it also encourages our employees towards a sustainable commitment to community involvement as an integral part of our CSR philosophy. We believe that such initiatives will elicit empathic and sensitive personal responses to the needs and experiences of our fellow citizens and our environment. Volunteering for community service is always a personally rewarding activity and performing it collectively through our corporate platform makes it even more meaningful and impactful.”

Telenor Hum Qadam kicked off with a solidarity cricket match with Persons with Disabilities followed by a cleanup activity where employees cleaned and painted the adjoining public areas of Telenor Pakistan’s office in Islamabad and contributed towards a cleaner, healthier environment. In Lahore, Telenor Pakistan’s employees cooked and catered lunch for persons with disabilities and enjoyed an inclusive entertainment program with them.

Some of the upcoming activities include tree plantation, solidarity walk with Persons with Disabilities to highlight equality of opportunity for all humanity at the World Disability Day, painting the premises of a government school and design murals to lighten-up the education experience of the underprivileged and internet-champion competitions. This phase of Telenor Hum Qadam will continue through the coming year and employees will continue to engage in various community service activities nationwide.
