Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Kids Phone Watch Pro in China, adding a new model to its children’s smartwatch lineup.
The watch is priced at around $175.
The Redmi Kids Phone Watch Pro has an octagonal display with a camera placed on the top bezel.
It also has a flip-up rear camera housing. Both the front and rear cameras use 5MP sensors, allowing children to take selfies as well as outward-facing photos.
One of the main features of the watch is its ability to keep sharing location data even after it powers off.
Xiaomi uses a dual-core setup, and its Find My Network of connected devices for this feature. The watch can continue sending location information for around five days after shutting down by using nearby Xiaomi devices to relay the signal.
This is designed to help parents track the child’s last known movement, even if the watch runs out of power.
The watch also includes Xiaomi’s third-generation AI floor-positioning system.
According to the company, the system can identify not only the building a child is in but also the specific floor. It updates the location every second, giving parents a near-live view through the companion app.
The watch can also recognise subway stations, record a child’s commute, and save route history for parents to review later.
The Redmi Kids Phone Watch Pro supports heart-rate and blood-oxygen monitoring.
It also includes 18 sport modes and five fitness assessments. Another safety feature is a water-proximity alert, which can automatically notify parents if the child gets close to a lake, pool, or river.
The watch allows children to add friends by tapping devices together. This feature also works with watches from some rival brands.
It supports child-safe versions of WeChat and QQ for calls and messages. Parents can monitor wear time, app usage, activity, and behaviour through a dashboard.
They can also set screen-time limits and enable a school mode that automatically disables the watch during class hours.
The Redmi Kids Phone Watch Pro is currently available in China. Xiaomi has not announced international availability for the watch yet.
