Head of Mobile Financial Services at Zong, Mr. Ali Raza Shah, has resigned just ahead of commercial launch of branchless banking that the company is planning in first week of December, we have confirmed with sources.

When asked the spokesperson of Zong, he denied any such development, however, ProPakistani got multiple confirmations on the information.

Resignation of Mr. Ali Raza Shah is reportedly due to a position he has been offered by a foreign operator. Sources close to Mr. Ali Raza confirmed that Mr. Shah will be moving aboard very soon to take up new his appointment.

Ali Raza has been amongst the pioneers of the Branchless Banking industry in Pakistan, working on the portfolio when a handful of people knew what it was about. He has been with the company for nearly 5 years and has held the position for roughly 2 years now while having experience in VAS and handsets/devices among others.

It maybe recalled that Zong was recently issued the license for the branchless banking, while the firm was all set to launch the financial services in early December.

We will have to see how this sudden resignation of MFS chief is going to impact the game plan of Zong for branchless banking, where Telenor has a rock solid standing while Mobilink has also stepped into the play.

This resignation of a key figure at a crucial time also raises the question on Zong’s ability to retain its work force. In recent past, we have seen people moving out of Zong, indicating a difficult to deal with situation with-in the company.
