E-government Plan Being Worked On For Good Governance

A master plan for E-government is being worked on for good governance, transparency and accountability in Pakistan, according to Anusha Rahman, Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecom.

The plan would cover providing E-services to the population in the most effective possible manner. The services would include all areas that could benefit from information technology like learning and education, agriculture and healthcare. Rahman said that the new services would help both traditional sectors and new emerging technologies. For this purpose, multiple technology parks will be established across Pakistan.

The first of these will be built in Chak Shahzad, where 45 acres of land has already been acquired. A feasibility study for the park will be ready by January 2015. The plan will also include the establishment of universal telecenters, which will provide E-services to people on their doorsteps.

The initiative was appreciated by Korean Ambassador, Son Jong-apprhwan as being beneficial to the public. He stressed that more work needs to be done to encourage collaboration in different fields between Pakistan and Korea, specially Information Technology.
