Asus Announces ZenWatch 2 for the Budget Conscious

One of the biggest issues with quality smartwatches today is their price. Either be it the Moto 360 or the Apple Watch, you can’t seem to be able to buy one without your bank accounts taking a hit.

Thankfully though, that concern has been addressed by Asus, with the arrival of its new ZenWatch 2. Priced at $170 for the 49mm and $190 for the smaller, 45mm version the ZenWatch 2 at least won’t cost as much as the phone it is paired with.

At the front you’ll either get a 1.6” or a 1.45” AMOLED display. There’s a metal crown on the side for controlling. The watch will come in three colors (Silver, Gunmetal and Rose Gold) and has been IP67-certified.

asus zenwatch 2Under the hood, you get a Snapdragon 400 processor with 512 MB RAM and 4 GB worth internal storage. Battery life, a key aspect of these watches, is said to last up to two days, but that is when you don’t use the smartwatch functions at all, which is kind of wrong. At least it features faster magnetic charging for up to 50% charge in half an hour.

The ZenWatch 2 will feature 22mm and 18mm interchangeable straps for the larger and smaller model. It will be available starting from next months, and as said will start from $170.
