Supreme Court of Pakistan today heard Zong’s petition in which it had pleaded the apex court for the removal of 5 SIMs per CNIC limit for data SIMs, a limit that was imposed by Supreme Court itself back in 2012.
After strong demand from consumers and biometric re-verification of all mobile phone SIMs, Zong took this initiative in June this year to seek removal of 5 SIMs per CNIC restriction on data SIMs by taking the matter to Supreme Court.
Zong, in its application submitted at Supreme Court, had requested the court to allow additional data SIM’s of any number, in addition to the cap set on voice+Data SIM’s
In response, Supreme Court today heard Zong’s application and matter was heard at length where Chairman PTA, representatives of all five mobile phone companies and other internet service providers (including PTCL) were present.
During the hearing, Dr. Ismail Shah, PTA chairman spoke in favor of the application and said it is a great way to empower the growth of the data customers in Pakistan.
After detailed hearing Chief Justice of Pakistan, through his orders, has formulated a committee comprising of Attorney General of Pakistan and PTA and instructed them to convene their meeting and submit their recommendations for removal of 5 SIMs per CNIC limitation within 2 weeks.
Next hearing for the case is fixed for September 21st, 2015.
