3 weeks ago, OPPO launched the successor to its F1 Selfie Expert. The new arrival is called the F1s and it also carries on the title of the Selfie Expert from its predecessor.
The F1s is more camera focused than ever and it raises the bar for its competitors by introducing a 16MP front facing camera.
Onto the unboxing. You get a sliding cardboard cover and on removing it you have a nice textured box.
On the front side of the box you have the renders of the phone and on the back there are some pretty basic specs of the phone listed.
Open up the box and you will see the phone neatly wrapped in the plastic covering. Lifting the tray underneath the phone, you will first find a box containing the SIM ejection tool, some paperwork and a clear plastic case.
Putting it aside, you have the wall adapter, USB cable for syncing/charging and the earphones sitting inside the box. Overall, the packaging of the accessories and phone itself was neat.
Taking off the plastic wrapping on the phone, you will first notice how premium the phone feels thanks to the metal frame and the body of the phone.
It is extremely well-built and there are no gaps or flex in the metal chassis of the phone. Most budget phones at this price point compromise on the build quality but it’s good to see that’s not the case here.
Up front you have the 2.5D, Corning Gorilla Glass 4, 5.5- inch HD screen. 720p resolution on a large screen phone is a no-no these days but viewing experience from normal distance was satisfactory.
Up top there’s the 16MP front facing camera, the white notification LED, ear piece and your standard sensors. At the bottom of the screen you also have the keys for the back and recent apps and a home button which also works as a fingerprint scanner.
On the right side you have the power button and on the left side of the phone you have the volume rocker. The side also houses the removable dual-SIM port and the dedicated microSD card slot. At the bottom you have the holes for the mic, the loud speaker, a 3.5mm headphone jack and an inverted micro-USB charging port.
At the back you have the 13MP rear facing camera along with the LED flash. Other than that the back is pretty much clean except for the OPPO branding and some regulatory markings.
I would sum up the initial impressions of this device by saying that the build quality of the phone is on par with some high-end phones and the specifications it offers makes for a smooth experience. The camera is, as expected, excellent. And although I haven’t stress tested the battery, so far it is providing a day and a half on light to moderate usage.
One thing we can safely say is that OPPO F1s is best camera phone in the price range. It can surely capture amazing selfies, ones that you would love to keep for life. And best of all is the price point with-in which the OPPO F1s is available.
