Play Games While Chatting with Telegram’s Gamebots

Chatbots are nothing new. Telegram was one of the first ones to enter the chatbot realm followed by Line and Facebook’s Messenger.

Introducing Gamebots

Telegram is now introducing a slew of “gamebots”. These are chatbots that allow you to play games with the people you are chatting with. They’re available for individual chats as well as group chats.

According to a recent blog post by Telegram:

Today we are aiming to push the boundaries further by launching a bot-powered Gaming Platform on Telegram. That’s right: you can now use bots to play games in your chats, complete with graphics and sound.

Right now there are around 30 games available via @gamebot (just type this after the update and you can play the games).

Telegram says there are 100 more such gamebots in the pipeline. Most of them are made by a third party developer called gamee. All you need to do to is type @gamee in your chat and you’ll be able to access the games.

The best part is, you can play games in both, single player and multiplayer or you can just enjoy turn-based games and competitive score-based games. If you find a great game on one of your chats you can share it with your friends and other chats as well.

The good thing about these gamebots is that your high scores are saved across all the chats you play games in. You can compare your scores with other chat participants with leaderboards. Similarly, if someone in your chat makes a new high score, you will receive a notification for it.

These games are easy to build. Some like MathBattle and Corsairs took 3 and 5 hours to build respectively. The blog post by Telegram mentions that while these games may look simple, you can build more complex ones as well,

Telegram games can be anything from simple arcades and puzzles to multiplayer 3D-shooters and real-time strategy games.

Won’t Take a Lot of Space

You may be wondering that if all these games are available on Telegram, accessing them will require you to download large files which will take up useful space on your phone. You don’t need to worry, because all of these games are based on HTML5 and are loaded on demand just like games on sites like miniclip.com or y8.com. They won’t take up space when you aren’t playing them.

The gamebots are available in Telegram v3.13 onwards. For now its only available on Android with the iOS version to be released within a day.
