Facebook Launches Standalone Events App for Android

On 7th October, Facebook announced the launch of their Events application. The iOS application for Events was released at the same time. However, developing the Android application took some time.

After much anticipation, Facebook has now officially launched Events for Android.

The Events application lets you see all the events happening around you, it prompts suggestions for events based on time, location and your interests. It also updates you and lets you know which events your friends are attending or are interested in, and so on.

If you have never used Events before, it brings smart suggestions and options. The company describes its services as:

“Catch up on the latest events activity, events your friends have recently responded to and updates from hosts.

Find events happening near you on an interactive map and filter based on time and event category. Get event recommendations based on what’s popular with your friends, things you’ve been to in the past and Pages you like.

Choose to add calendars from your phone to see all of your plans in one place. Opt-in to get notifications about your upcoming events so you know if details change.”

Just like the iPhone counterpart, the Android application also allows you to add your calendar to assess any conflicts between your schedule and upcoming events (or events you are interested in).

It is worth mentioning that users can already use Events via browser or Facebook Mobile application. However, this stand-alone application has a refined search algorithm to cater the needs of 450 million users across the world.

Judging on the reviews of the Android users, the UI of the application is not very user-friendly. Drawing comparisons to the iPhone application, Android users claim that it needs a lot of improvement.

The Events application on Android is not available in Pakistan, however. It is expected to become available in the coming days.
