Spotify Turns Into an AI Music Assistant

Spotify has started rolling out a new AI-powered feature that lets users chat directly with the music streaming service through a built-in chatbot.

The feature is available on mobile devices and can be accessed from both the Home screen and the Now Playing view. Users can interact with Spotify by speaking or typing, allowing them to have back-and-forth conversations similar to other AI chatbots.

The AI can help users learn more about the music they enjoy, revisit their listening history, explore podcasts and audiobooks, or discover artists they have never listened to before. Once music starts playing, users can continue refining recommendations through conversation.

Spotify’s AI also lets users perform common actions by simply asking. They can save songs, add tracks to the queue, follow artists, and manage playback using voice or text commands.

While listening to music, users can ask questions about the currently playing song, such as its inspiration, genre, or the album’s release date. The AI can also provide additional context, recommend related artists, and share stories connected to the music.

For podcasts and audiobooks, the chatbot can answer questions about the people, stories, and ideas featured in the content. It can also respond to questions about a user’s own listening preferences and music taste.

The feature is launching in beta starting today for Premium users aged 18 and older in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden. It is available in English on both iOS and Android. Spotify has not said how long the beta will last or when the feature will expand to other markets.
