Sindh Government Bans Internet Cafe’s That Lack Surveillance

The Sindh government is moving in on internet cafes in the province. The provincial government, under Section 144 (6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, has imposed a ban on internet cafes working without proper video surveillance and recording systems.

The cafes will be given a formal 15 day notice from a local SHO if they don’t have video surveillance systems and recording systems installed.

Required to Keep Copies of CNICs

Those that do have security cameras and a recording system installed, will be required to keep their recordings for 1 year. The cafe owners will have to keep copies of their customers’ CNICs along with a record of their usage time and the cabin number given to them.

SHOs can register complaints in written form under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code for the violation of the previously mentioned Section 144 (6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
