Huawei MateBook Lineup Take on the World’s Best Ultrabooks

With the PC industry going through a bit of a revival of sorts, Huawei is making a big entry into the market, showing that it means business. It has recently announced two new laptops, the MateBook X and MateBook D, which fall in the high and mid-range segments, respectively.

MateBook X

Acting as kind of a MacBook counterpart in the Windows world, the MateBook X comes with a 13-inch 2160 x 1440 IPS display, with 350 nits of brightness and 100% sRGB color coverage. It will be available in Gray, Gold and Rose Gold, and uses the 3:2 aspect ratio.

It also has a 88% screen-to-body ratio and weighs just over a kilogram. Underneath, you get a 7th-generation Core i5 or i7 processor with Intel HD Graphics 620, 4 or 8 GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 256 or 512 GB of PCIe-based storage.

For connectivity, there are only two USB-C ports (no Thunderbolt), with headphone jack, Dolby Atmos Sound and a 1 MP webcam. There’s also Wi-Fi ac and Bluetooth 4.1. Huawei does bundle a small dock for more VGA, USB-C and HDMI ports.

Battery life is said to be 10 hours on a single charge.

The MateBook X starts at 1,399 Euros.

MateBook D

The next one is a bit less exciting, which comes down to its more mainstream nature.

It has a 15.6-inch 1080p display on the front, coupled with a Kaby Lake Core i5 or i7 processor and between 4-16 GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The GPU here is a 2 GB GeForce 940MX.

As for connectivity options, it includes 2 USB 3.0, 1 USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi ac and HDMI. It will be available in three colors, and has a 83% screen-to-body support with a weight of 1.9 kg. The battery on the MateBook D measures 43.3 Wh unit.

It will be available starting from 799 Euros.
