Ludo Star, a mobile game that features everyone’s favorite board game, has taken over our lives.
It’s grown immensely popular in to Pakistan and even India. As we grow ever more reliant on smartphones and tablets for our entertainment, the board game culture has started to disappear from our lives. Ludo Star allows us to play with friends and throw that virtual ‘chakka’ (dice) alongside a healthy dose of nostalgia, which explains its viral popularity.
Just as Pokemon GO and fidget spinners, it has been at the center of memes and other jokes as well.
So it’s no surprise that Ludo Star has been downloaded millions of times to date.
Complicating our love for this game is a recent video in which a man named Raja Zia ul Haq says it’s haram and should not be played. Haq claims to be the CEO of a youth club and his video gained a lot of attention on social media.
In the video, he says that he has received hundreds of questions from people asking whether the game is halal or not.
He further claims that all scholars consider games of such kind to be haraam. Finally, he concludes his point view with a hadith.
The Prophet (SAW) said: “Whoever plays with dice, it is as if he were dipping his hand in the flesh and blood of a pig”

Since then, people on social media have started to debate on the latest time-waster of the day. Opinions have been divided on this topic where some are actually supporting Raja’s claims while others seem to think that the hadith he is quoting does not fit in the context, saying that while there are dice involved, there is no money in it so there’s no reason for it to be haram.
