Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Mardan has recently declared a detail regarding the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) which shows a gloomy picture of the results. More than 42% have failed their HSSC exams.
A student of Government Higher Secondary School Baizi Kharki, Romaisa Subhan got the third position in the Humanities Group of HSSC. However, the results of other government schools and students are not satisfactory.
39,797 students passed their HSSC exams out of 68,805 students, in the recently announced results on August 01. The overall passing percentage calculates to be 57.84.
In HSSC Part 1, 18,463 out of 36,520 students were successful, making the overall passing percentage to be 51%. On the other hand, in HSSC Part 2, 21,334 out of 32,285 students cleared the exams meaning that the passing percentage was 66%.
Only 91 (out of 318) students from Government Degree College, Katlong and 20 from Government Shaheed Shafqat Higher Secondary School managed to pass their exams.
Other colleges with 0% success rate were Government Girls Degree College Katlong, Dilshad Memorial College Parao Jalala, Degree College Shahve Adda, Muslim Learning Academy and College Pubbi, and Jehangira Modern School.
12 colleges got a cumulative passing percentage below 33%, whereas one government college and four private colleges got 0% passing results.
BISE Mardan Controller of Examinations Prof Muhammad Ali said, “examination boards should not be blamed for the dismal performance of students. Instead, it was the responsibility of the educational institutes to prepare students for the exams”.
Telling the reasons behind the failure of students from government schools, he said that lack of attention from parents and financial limits are the major roadblocks. He also requested the parents to pay more attention towards their kids regarding studies.
Speaking about the initiatives to modernize the examination system, he said that three different papers were used in each exam, the number of invigilators was increased in addition to installing the CCTV cameras to refrain students from cheating and using illegal ways for passing exams.
