Prominent USA politician and pro-Israel lobbyist Lindsey Graham of South Carolina has died at the age of 71 after a brief and sudden illness, his communications director announced a short while ago.
No further details about the cause of death were released.
Graham served in the US Senate for more than two decades after first being elected in 2002. He also chaired the Senate Budget Committee and was seeking another term in office at the time of his death.
He was widely known for his strong support for Israel and frequently called for US backing of the occupying state against its war against Iran this year.
Graham also advocated a hardline approach toward Iran, including support for tougher sanctions and military pressure.
His remarks occasionally drew attention in Pakistan. In June 2025, after Defence Minister Khawaja Asif suggested Pakistan could help facilitate dialogue with Iran, Graham publicly urged Islamabad not to involve itself in US-Iran diplomacy, saying Pakistan should stay out of those negotiations.
Although Graham was an outspoken critic of Donald Trump during the 2016 Republican presidential primaries, he later became one of Trump’s closest allies in Congress and a key supporter of his foreign policy agenda.
