‘CLINIC ON WHEELS’ Offers Home Healthcare Services in Karachi

Pakistan’s healthcare infrastructure is marred with inadequacies and inefficiencies, due to lack of resources, facilities and capital. According to the WHO, the government of Pakistan spends only 2.6% of its GDP on healthcare, forcing people to turn towards the private sector to address their healthcare requirements.

The current dismal state of affairs of Pakistan’s health sector has led to an E-health revolution in the past couple of years with startups finding great promise in this unchartered territory. Although people are aware of the disparity between the public and private healthcare facilities in the country, there is a completely invisible sector of home healthcare. This sector is highly unorganized and unregulated, mostly run by medical staffing agencies and home sampling services provided by a few laboratories.

Launched in March 2016, CLINIC ON WHEELS is a Mobile-application based Home Healthcare Service in Pakistan, providing clinical medical services such as Doctor visit, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Lab tests, Vaccinations and medical equipment at home through its app, website and call center. Over the course of 18 months, CLINIC ON WHEELS has received a good response from users. Users are mostly elderly family members, immobile patients with disabilities, patients recovering from surgeries at home or non-emergency related cases who require medical attention and are unable to visit a medical facility.

Being a provider of all these medical services under one umbrella in a city of 27 million has been the cornerstone for CLINIC ON WHEELS. It offers users the ease, convenience and flexibility to receive medical care at their choice of location. The medical team consists of experienced and qualified medical practitioners registered with the PMDC and PNC and takes a stern stand against quackery which is rampant in the home healthcare sector.

CLINIC ON WHEELS has also partnered with clinical laboratories in the city such as Dr. Ziauddin Hospital, Tabba Heart Institute and Chughtai Lab, offering home sampling services to the public from their choice of laboratory.

The home healthcare niche has a vast untapped potential and comes with its own set of challenges. The CLINIC ON WHEELS service is currently available in Karachi for now, with plans to expand nationwide in the near future.
