“There’s a Lot of Garbage in PIA” Says NA Committee Chairman

National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat has shown its discomfort on Pakistan International Airline’s (PIA) performance. Since last year, the only change has been an increase in losses of the national flag carrier.

The Committee visited the PIA head office today to review the overall performance of the airline. The Committee was headed by MNA Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan and 18 out of 21 members of the committee were present at the meeting. PIA’s newly appointed Chief Executive Officer, Dr Musharraf Rasool Cyan, briefed the committee members.

Media Controversy

PIA management tried to keep the meeting behind closed doors, stopping reporters from entering the board room. After bringing this matter in front of the Committee Chairman, the journalists were allowed to enter the board room.

However the management had finished the briefing until then. Committee members said that the standing committee proceedings will be open for public next time around with the media allowed to cover the meeting.

New PIA CEO

After the meeting Chairman of the Committee the media was informed that PIA management is unable to implement the decision made a year ago. He admitted that the new PIA Chief Executive has no experience in the aviation industry.

“Despite the new CEO having no experience in aviation, he is highly educated and has management experience. PIA is unable to perform with the current management team.” Rana Hayat added.

He added that several officers are appointed at important posts however they are not performing their duties as they are required to. Hence they should be removed from the post. There’s a lot of garbage in PIA, these officers are responsible for the airline’s decline.

MNA PTI Asad Umer added that in a joint session of the parliament, a new law was passed and PIA’s restructuring was promised. Nothing has happened since then and no progress was made.

“The only difference in the management’s briefing was the increase in losses. Last year airline losses stood at Rs. 19 billion and now this figure has gone up to Rs. 44 billion.” Asad Umer added.

PIA Future Plans

The committee also showed its disappointment on PIA’s aircraft being sold to a German museum. CEO of the airline told that the museum is demanding parking fee for the aircraft. PIA is now looking for a buyer who can purchase the aircraft then and there.

Musharraf Rasool Cyan said that PIA’s management is only willing to fly on the profitable routes. He asked for the support of the elected representative in this regard. PIA is willing to improve its communication with passengers, he said.

  • Ek Bar Parhe Likhe Youngster K Hath Main DO PIA Ka Nizaam With Full of Power
