The Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms (MPDR) has revealed that two technologies for increasing rainfall were tested successfully.
During the meeting of a parliamentary panel, Senators Muhammad Mohsin Khan Leghari and Saeed ul Hassan Mandokhail showed deep concern over water schemes and conservation in the country, especially in Balochistan.
Officials from the Planning Ministry said that two technologies were tested to increase rainfall in areas like Balochistan. The first method was to bombard clouds with silver chloride.
The second method, developed by Russia, was to make use of electromagnetic distribution changes for rainfall. The official said that 17 attempts were made, out of which 15 were successful.
He suggested that WAPDA could take the issue at hand and utilize these technologies to increase rainfall in dry areas of Balochistan.
Water Policy
The officials revealed that the stakeholders could not come to a consensus on water policy and despite efforts over the last 30 years, the policy is yet to see daylight.
Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui Secretary Planning, Development and Reforms said that water conservation is a big challenge. The Ministry further informed the committee that the Prime Minister has a written a letter, addressed to the Chief Secretary Balochistan for the construction of 13 small dams in Khuzdar district.
Meeting of the sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Reforms was also held, which was attended by Senator Karim Ahmed Khawaja as Convener and Senators Muhammad Mohsin Khan Leghari and Saeed ul Hassan Mandokhail as members.
The Committee was chaired in the beginning by Senator Saeed ul Hassan Mandokhail due to absence of Convenor Sub-Committee. He joined at a later time since his flight was delayed due to technical problems.

Using it, rain or excessive rainfall can be produced at areas with little to no rainfall.
