LHC Directs Government to Appoint Chairman PTA in 30 Days

Lahore High Court has directed the federal government to appoint new chairman for Pakistan Telecommunication Authority in 30 days, we have confirmed.

While hearing a petition filed by Shiraz Zaka, who had pleaded to remove Chairman PTA after he completed his service term, the court maintained that the post has been advertised already and that petition has become infructuous and thus dismissed the petition.

Shiraz argued that Chairman PTA can be appointed for only four years and after which government must appoint new chairman of the authority.

Hearing the petition, the Justice Justice Shahid Kareem directed the federal government to advertise the job for Chairman PTA — that the government has already done — and make an appointment with-in 30 days.

This was when assistant Attorney General of Pakistan produced the advertisement that was published in papers for the appointment of chairman PTA.

High Court, after seeing the advertisement dismissed the petition with a note that government should follow the procedures to appoint chairman PTA.
