An official from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has raised his concerns over the organization’s employment criteria, saying that the cricket’s regulatory body is not offering merit-based jobs and is promoting nepotism.
Upon the condition of anonymity, the official disclosed the irregularity in the board’s hiring procedures, which offers more jobs to the residents of Punjab, terming it as an undue favour, while other provinces don’t have their fair share in the job openings.
The appointments based on region, while totally neglecting merit, has raised serious concerns among the members of the board, but nothing has been done till now to stop such undue favours for specific regions.
Talking about the recent contract-based hirings, 190 in total, Punjab has had the lion’s share (142) while other provinces had minimal representation.
With just 21 people from Sindh, 11 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), 8 from Balochistan, 6 from Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), 1 from Gilgit-Baltistan and 1 from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), the board has openly disregarded merit by appointing more than 70% people bearing Punjab’s domicile.

According to the official, the appointments are under debate among the members of the board but serious actions must be taken immediately to promote merit instead of favoritism, to keep the national cricketing body on the right track.
The biased behavior can hamper the progress of the country’s favorite game which is not acceptable to any of us. The authorities should investigate the matter and get to the bottom of these multiple PCB related scandals that have popped up recently.
