Govt Earmarks Rs. 326 Billion for 14 CPEC-Related NHA Projects

National Highway Authority (NHA) has proposed over Rs 326 billion for 14 China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) road projects in the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) 2018-19.

According to documents,  NHA has proposed a total of Rs 823.13 billion for 103 ongoing and new projects in PSDP 2018-19, including Rs 471.62 billion local and Rs 351.5 billion foreign components.

The Authority has proposed over Rs 210 billion foreign and Rs 116 billion local components for CPEC-related 14 projects.

The government has earmarked Rs 326.25 billion for NHA in the PSDP 2017-18 of which Rs 151.81 billion has been released so far.

NHA proposed Rs 7.5 billion for Basima-Khuzdar (106 km) in PSDP 2018-19. The project has been approved in the CPEC and implementation mechanism is under process. Further, Rs 10.55 billion have been proposed for construction of Burhan-Havelian Expressway (CPEC) 59.1 km.

The Authority has proposed Rs 43.36 billion for construction of Hakla on M-1 to Yarik D.I. Khan Motorway (CPEC) where 25 percent physical progress has been achieved so far.

NHA has proposed Rs 30.19 billion for dualization of Yarik-Mughalkot-Zhob section of N-50 (210 km) western alignment including Zhob bypass and land acquisition. The project has been approved in the CPEC framework and implementation mechanism is under consideration.

Rs 9.526 billion have been proposed in the PSDP 2018-19 for improvement and widening of Jaglot-Skardu road (CPEC) where 5 percent physical progress has so far been achieved.

NHA has proposed Rs 4.57 billion for land acquisition affected properties compensation for construction of Burhan-Hakla to D.I. Khan Motorway (CPEC) where 90 percent physical work progress has been reported.

The Authority has proposed Rs 121.88 billion for Multan-Sukkur section (387 km) CPEC including Rs 115.79 billion of foreign aid. About 35 percent physical progress has been reported on the project so far.

NHA has proposed Rs 54.58 billion for construction of Thakot to Havelian 118 km (CPEC) including Rs 51.855 billion of foreign aid where 34 percent physical progress has been claimed. Rs 2.46 billion have been proposed for land acquisition of Thakot to Havelian (CPEC) where 94 percent physical progress has been reported so far.

The Authority has proposed Rs 8.25 billion for upgradation/dualization of Motorway link from Kohat via Jhand (CPEC). Rs 13.188 billion have been proposed in the PSDP 2018-19 for Zhob to Kuchlak road including land acquisition as the project is currently at the feasibility stage. NHA has proposed Rs 22.045 billion for Karachi-Lahore motorway (land) CPEC. Lahore-Abdul Hakeem and Multan-Sukkur portions have been completed while Sukkur-Hyderabad is under process.

NHA has proposed Rs 5 billion for Mirpur-Mangla-Muzaffarabad-Mansehra road (CPEC). PC-1 of the project has been submitted to Planning Commission. The Authority has proposed Rs 1 billion in the PSDP 2018-19 for Gilgit–Shandoor- Chitral-Chakdara road (CPEC), PC-1 of the project has been submitted to the Planning Commission.
