Major YouTube Hack Defaces Popular Music Videos Including Despacito

Hackers find it interesting to hack major corporations and international giants. In the latest round of hacks, several videos on YouTube have been defaced and subsequently taken down.

Among them was one of the most popular videos, Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito”. The video’s thumbnail was changed, showing a group of masked people holding guns. The description was also altered by the hackers, calling themselves Prosox and Kuroi’sh.

Here’s what the thumbnail looked like, courtesy of BBC:

As mentioned earlier, the video has been taken down, however, according to The Verge and BBC, other defaced videos still remain at large.

These include music videos by artists such as Shakira, Selena Gomez, Drake, Taylor Swift, Chris Brown, Katy Perry and DJ Snake.

The affected videos were uploaded to the artists’ Vevo YouTube accounts.

Currently, the above-mentioned artists’ Vevo accounts appear to be normal with the videos fixed as well.

It’s unclear whether the hackers breached individual artists’ accounts or if it was an exploit affecting Vevo accounts in general. One of the hackers has claimed to have used a script to change the videos.

YouTube and Vevo both have been asked for their comments. Check back for further developments on the story.
