Sony Can Permanently Delete Your PlayStation Account, Games Too

Sony’s updated PlayStation Network (PSN) Terms of Service allow the company to delete/deactivate accounts that remain inactive for 36 consecutive months. This also includes digital game libraries.

Under Section 21 of the Terms of Service, introduced in April 2026, Sony may start the account closure process if a PSN account has not been used for three years.

Before closing an account, Sony says it will send an email notification, giving the account holder six months to either sign in or request that the account remain active. If no action is taken within that period, the account may be permanently closed.

Once an account is closed, users lose access to PlayStation Network services linked to it, including digital purchases such as downloaded games, downloadable content (DLC), subscriptions and other digital items tied to the account.

Sony’s terms state that the closure process cannot be reversed, meaning affected users cannot recover access to the account or its digital content once it has been permanently deleted.
