Following the successful launch of APIthon – Pakistan’s first-ever API based hackathon – in Lahore this January, the competition is coming to Islamabad for its second edition.
AbacusConsulting, in collaboration with Google Apigee, brings a unique opportunity to the startup and developers community of Pakistan, providing them with an ideal platform to innovate and generate new revenue models.
The first edition of APIthon, which was held at LUMS, attracted over 20 tech geniuses and entrepreneurs to come up with new business ideas and apps using open APIs. With such an overwhelming response, the competition only promises to get bigger and better as it returns once more, this time at the National Incubation Centre in Islamabad on the 5th and 6th of May 2018.
What’s New in APIthon Chapter II?
APIthon II in Islamabad will cover two days of rigorous coding in which all participants will get an opportunity to consume numerous APIs from the telco, ride-sharing and banking sectors. APIthon II has partnered up with Jazz, Telenor, JS Bank, UBER and Bookme.pk, who will all be exposing their APIs for the contestants.
The second edition will offer two different tracks for the participants: Open APIs and Mini-challenges. For the Open APIs track, participants will be expected to use the available partner APIs in their products and apps to develop new services or revenue streams within two days. In the mini-challenges, partners like JS Bank and Jazz will throw some real challenges that will be solved by the participants using the sponsors’ APIs. The winner will get an opportunity to work with the challenge sponsors along with exciting prizes.

On the second day, contestants will deliver their pitches to a panel of judges from diversified sectors, who will evaluate their apps and ideas. The judging criteria can be seen on the event website.
Why Should You Care?
There are several exciting prizes announced for the winners of APIthon.
The winners will get an opportunity to secure a scholarship worth $5,000 by Draper University – a silicon valley based school for entrepreneurship and innovation. Furthermore, the university will also offer a three-day complimentary stay at the campus to the winners, along with one-on-one mentorship opportunities with their mentors.
If this isn’t enough, Ignite — formerly National ICT and R&D Fund — is one of the main partners and is extending investment opportunities to the winners, which will help in turning their ideas into realities. The winners of mini-challenges will get business opportunities and prizes from the relevant challenge sponsor directly.

Not From Islamabad?
If you are not in Islamabad and are coming from another city (Lahore, Faisalabad and Peshawar) APIthon II will cover your traveling cost too.
