Wahab Riaz Signed by Derbyshire for the Upcoming Vitality T20 Blast

Derbyshire, an English domestic team, has agreed to sign Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz following his exclusion from the national side.

Following a splendid display of fast bowling in the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) campaign, Wahab was on the radar of a number of teams.

The left-armer will feature in this year’s Vitality T20 Blast and will look to put the negative remarks of Micky Arthur, who publicly shamed Wahab for not ‘winning a game for Pakistan in two years’.

Speaking more about his performances, the Pakistan cricket team coach said:

I cannot fault Wahab when he has a ball in his hand but his work ethic around training is something [that] needs to be looked at. I am changing the culture in this Pakistan environment and I am not interested in players doing just the bare minimum.

Although understandable but Micky’s words were a bit too harsh considering Wahab’s recent performance in the PSL. Taking a look back at things, in his last Test match he played against Sri Lanka, he wrecked the top order and restored chances of a victory when all was lost. His iconic performance against India in an ODI a year ago can also be highlighted as a key performance of his career.

Criticism aside, this will come as a huge boost for the 32-year-old, who has not played a Test match for the national team since last October against Sri Lanka in Dubai and has also struggled to maintain a place in the limited overs side.

Concentrating more on Wahab Riaz’s T20 career, it has been a fantastic one. He finished as the joint highest wicket-taker in PSL with Faheem Ashraf. He took 18 wickets at an economy of less than 7-runs per over.

Overall, he has taken just under 200 wickets in 167 T20 games.

Wahab underwent a surgery during the weekend due to his long-standing sinus problem and will be available for Derbyshire, who are traveling for the Caribbean Premier League in early August.
