Sindh Government has presented its budget for the next fiscal year with expenditure approval till September 2018. The total outlay of the budget is Rs.1123.991 billion. Federal Government will fund Rs 665.085 billion while the provincial government will collect 243.082 billion in taxes.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah presented the budget for the fiscal year 2018-19. Due to the upcoming elections, expenditure approval has only been granted for the first quarter that ends September 30th, 2018.
Sindh government has allocated Rs. 343.9 billion for Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) for the next fiscal year.
In terms of Federal Transfer, Rs. 605.285 billion will be given to Sindh Government as Revenue Assignment, Rs. 43.527 billion in Straight Transfer and Rs 16.272 billion in Grants to offset losses of the abolition of OZT.
Sindh will collect Rs 243.082 billion during 2018-19 with Rs. 103.267 billion as Provincial Tax receipts, Rs. 120 billion by Sindh Revenue Board and Rs 19.814 billion in Provincial Non-Tax Receipts.
Sindh Chief Minister announced different projects for the education sector as well. In the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP), Rs. 24.4 billion were allocated out of which Rs 5 billion are for colleges and Rs. 15 billion STEVTA. To improve enrolment of girls in schools, Rs. 1.2 billion have been allocated for scholarships. Students who obtain A-1 Grade in Metric and Intermediate Board will be given special rewards and Rs. 1.2 billion have been allocated for this.
To improve law and order in the province, about 11 thousand personnel will be recruited in different departments of Sindh Police. Out of which 2782 personnel will be recruited for CPEC related projects, while another 2959 posts have been allocated for training, crime branch, traffic, and technical training.
To purchase physical assets for Sindh Police, Rs 5.348 billion, for Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Rs 306.855 million, for Frontier Constabulary (Sindh) Rs 14.865 million and for Home Department Rs 42.996 million have been allocated.
