Former South African skipper, AB de Villiers has announced his retirement from international cricket from all formats with immediate effect, saying that ‘he has run out of gas’.
It has come as a huge shock to the fans of cricket as AB de Villiers is only 34-years of age and has been immensely fit up till now.
The South African posted a video on his social media account declaring that he will be departing from the beloved game. In the video, he said
I’ve had my turn and, to be honest, I’m tired. This is a tough decision. I’ve thought long and hard about it and I’d like to retire still playing decent cricket.
It would not be right for me to pick and choose where, when and in what format I play for the Proteas. For me, in green and gold, it must be everything or nothing.
The video was uploaded on his official Twitter account, attached below.
De Villiers added in his video message that he has “no plans” to play overseas, and he hopes to continue to be available for domestic cricket in South Africa.
