Punjab Set to Host Country’s Biggest Sports Event

The Punjab Youth Affairs and Sports Department is set to organize the country’s biggest sports event in October, with more than 50 lakh male and female students from different educational institutions expected to take part.

Prize money worth crores of rupees will be distributed among the winning players.

Punjab Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Malik Faisal Ayub Khokhar announced the event while speaking to the media at the inaugural ceremony of the Youth Cricket Super League at Nawab Town Cricket Stadium.

DG Sports Punjab Tariq Qureshi, Deputy Director Zahoor Ahmed, Chief Coordinator Malik Haseeb Irfan Khokhar, Chairman UC 256 Mian M. Awais, Chief Coordinator PP-167 Rao Sadaqat, and a large number of sports enthusiasts were also present.

A total of 36 teams from different union councils of PP-167 are participating in the three-day tournament. A horse dance was also presented at the opening ceremony.

Speaking on the occasion, Faisal Ayub Khokhar said the Youth Cricket Super League is a special gift from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for the youth of the constituency. He added that the Punjab Sports Department is organizing multiple sports activities in line with the chief minister’s vision.

The minister said bringing young people back to sports fields is a shared responsibility, adding that all segments of society, especially parents, must play their role in encouraging youth participation in healthy activities.

He also highlighted the facilities available at Nawab Town Sports Complex, saying it is equipped with an indoor gym, cricket practice pitches, high-standard grounds, separate facilities for women, and solar panels.

Khokhar said the Punjab government is developing similar modern sports infrastructure across the province to attract young people toward positive sports activities.
