Fujifilm Unveils The New X-T3 Mirrorless Camera

With the mirrorless camera market heating up after the launches from Nikon and Canon, Fujifilm is the latest company to step forward and bring updates in its X-T2 mirrorless camera with the new X-T3.

At the front of the camera sits a 26.1MP back-illuminated CMOS X-Trans 4 sensor of APS-C format, which is accompanied by a new dual-core X-Trans 4 image processor. There are design improvements with larger dials on top but it still weighs in at a hefty 869 grams.

Autofocus and Video

ISO range of as low as 160 is supported now. Autofocus speeds are 50% higher (the exact figure is not given), with up to 425 autofocus points supported, with the continuous shooting mode now reaching 30fps via electronic shutter (or 11 without it, with a buffer of 145).

For video, you get the option to shoot up to 4K videos at 60fps in 4:2:0 10-bit. That makes it the only camera on the market with this feature. Support for H.265 is also added this time which should enable lengthier videos.

EVF and LCD

At the back of the camera, there sits a 0.5″ 3.69 million-dot EVF, which is a substantial upgrade from the 2.36M before. There is also a 1.04 million-dot touchscreen LCD, which can extend outwards but doesn’t support 180-degrees flipping. (There isn’t a touch strip like Canon at the back, though.)

For connectivity, you get USB 3.1 Type-C, headphone jack, a 2.5mm mic-out, and microHDMI. There are dual memory card slots with support for SD/SDHC/SDHX cards. Battery life is quoted at up to 390 shots on a single charge.

Price

The pricing of the camera is set at $1500, for the body only, running up to $1900 with an XF18-55mm lens.

In stark contrast to Canon and Nikon, Fujifilm is bringing incremental improvements here rather than fixing something which wasn’t broken. And honestly, it appears to be a much better deal if you’re looking for a video focused mirrorless shooter.
