Xiaomi just launched a new suite of water-resistant mechanical watches, under a catchy moniker “TwentySeventeen”.
The new watch, called TwentySeventeen Light Mechanical wristwatch is not a smartwatch and has been designed to last a lifetime.
And it just might manage to do that, because it’s wholly mechanical, with no electronic features. The watch does not even have a battery, it uses kinetic energy instead, which it generates when you wear it. However, it may run out of juice if not worn for some time.

In that case, you’ll have to generate kinetic energy manually to jump-start it back to life. This watch is manufactured by Xiaomi’s partner, Shenzhen Micro-intelligence using extremely durable parts, including a scratch-resistant sturdy Sapphire glass face.
The face also went through a blue-coating process to prevent fingerprint smudges and glare. The watch itself looks fairly premium, with a nice calfskin strap that the company says won’t wear over time. The crown has been made using special gears that last much longer, it also controls the built-in date viewer. It has a waterproofing rating of 5 ATM.
Xiaomi’s TwentySeventeen Light Mechanical wristwatch is available in two main colors – Black and White. The black version has a different black-colored strap.
Price has been kept at a decent CNY 499 (~Rs. 9,000). It’s a good price, considering the features the watch comes with. It is available in China via YouPin and might take some time before hitting the markets in Pakistan.
