FBR Still Hasn’t Issued a Tax Directory for FY2017

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is yet to issue the tax directory of all taxpayers, including tax details of parliamentarians, for the Tax Year 2017.

In July 2017, the FBR had released the tax directory of parliamentarians for the fourth consecutive year as the number of MPs who filed their returns in 2016 went up to 1,010 as compared to 996 in Tax Year 2015. These 1,010 parliamentarians belonged to the Upper and Lower Houses of the Parliament as well as provincial assemblies.

The outgoing government had published a tax directory of parliamentarians for the tax years 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016. However, the incumbent government is yet to issue the Tax Directory of all taxpayers including the parliamentarians.

The Tax Directory comprises of three sections i.e. corporations, association of persons (AoPs) and individuals listed in alphabetical order. The last tax directory was tabulated from returns filed manually and electronically till August 10, 2017. Manually filed returns were entered into the system.

The Tax Directory of all taxpayers for the Tax Year 2016 revealed that the number of taxpayers increased to 1,216,614 as compared to 1,074,418 for Tax Year 2015, reflecting an increase of 142,196 taxpayers.
