5G Will Cover 40% of the World by 2024: Report

5G is the next big thing in mobile communication. Being the next generation of wireless technology, it will reach more than 40 percent of the world’s population in the next few years.

The latest mobility report from Ericsson, a telecommunications giant, has revealed that 5G will be available to 1.5 billion people by the end of 2024.

5G is said to offer drastically enhanced speed and responsiveness. Word has it that we’ll see the first 5G smartphones by 2019.

Moreover, 25 percent of the mobile data traffic worldwide will originate from 5G networks. As per the report, 5G will enter North America and North East Asia first, after which it will roll out in Western Europe.

Internet of Things

Apart from mobile data statistics, the report revealed that gadgets making up the ‘internet of things’ (IoT) will reach 4.1 billion in 2024. Not only this but with the advent of 5G networks, there will be a significant increase in the market for IoT devices. The market will grow exactly five times from 2018 to 2023, reaching 3.5 billion units.

“The biggest change since the June report is the increase in mobile data traffic that has happened in 2018. We are now back at Year over Year growth numbers that we have not seen since 2013,” said the report author, Patrik Cerwall in a statement.

“As 5G hits the market we should note that it comes to a market that already is familiar with smartphones and has almost 6 billion unique users. 5G is therefore expected to reach global adoption on a scale not seen before,” he said.
