Huawei Ready to Start 5G Trials in India

Huawei – one of the world’s largest tech and telecom company – will soon start 5G trials in India, as the Chinese giant has finally been given approval by the Indian government to start testing its new technology in the region.

The company has not made any progress so far in improving its telecom services in western regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

Even in India, it wasn’t easy for Huawei to get permission to test its services from the government. Earlier, the Indian government sent out invites to a number of global 5G providers – such as Nokia, Samsung, Ericson, Cisco, and NEC – to bring their service to the region. Chinese firms, including Huawei and ZTE, however, were not invited.

So far, only Huawei was able to secure an approval from India to test out its 5G technology. ZTE, on the other hand, still awaits permission.

Huawei’s influence and global standing, in addition to trade and political relations between the neighboring countries of India and China, helped the Chinese company get further into the 5G testing grounds in India.

India’s IT head not only allowed Huawei to enter the country but also complimented the company for building the country’s telecom infrastructure.

In relation to the latest development, Huawei’s official statement reads:

As a leading global supplier of telecoms equipment, we remain committed to developing trusted and secure solutions for our customers. We continue to receive full support from the Government and industry partners alike. Having a proven track record of doing business in the country, we continue to work closely with the Government of India and other industry stakeholders.

To work on telecom affairs, especially 5G development, the country’s government has set up an official forum containing high-level IT experts and telecom secretaries.
