The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued Income Tax General Order (ITGO) to disable the mobile phone SIMs of over 0.5 million persons who are not appearing on active taxpayer list but are liable to file the Income Tax Return for Tax Year 2023.
The exhaustive list has names of 506,671 persons who are not appearing on active taxpayer list but are liable to file the Income Tax Return for Tax Year 2023.
The General Order issued by FBR said that the mobile SIMs in respect of above-mentioned individuals will remain blocked until restored by FBR or the Commissioner Inland Revenue having jurisdiction of the person.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and all Telecom operators are required to ensure the compliance of this ITGO with immediate effect.
The compliance report in this regard is to be furnished to FBR on May 15, 2024, positively, the order added.
In a post on X, FBR urged individuals to promptly address their tax obligations and file their income tax returns for Tax Year 2023 by furnishing correct declarations to get their mobile phone services restored in compliance with the ITGO.

Those who are paying taxes regularly and submit annual return...what are the benefits for them ? 0 a big zero...than why people need to be a filer ? At least start giving incentive who are paying taxes... people will file their return when they see benefits...govt is offering nothing and demand more than the expectations..be practical and grow up

Stupid forget PIN their system send PIN on SIM. They are making JAIB GARM program rather than compelling people to file returns.
Jumping to conclusions is not a great idea. This is first step, also you cannot have same number under family name. In next step it can be electricity connection which you cannot have again under family name at the same place.
Those who file taxes have a hard time getting a refund for returns.
The process is bad that even if you talk to a tax professional, they advise you that is no point of asking for a return refund.
