Karachi Airport Runs Dry, Leaving Passengers With No Water Even for Toilets

Even though Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) collects heavy airport service charges from passengers, it still fails to provide clean hygienic toilets with proper tap water to international travelers at Jinnah Terminal Karachi Airport.

A video, sent to ProPakistani by a passenger traveling from Karachi airport to perform an Umrah, shows that water is not available in the toilets in the international departure lounge of Jinnah Terminal.

Instead of fixing the plumbing in the toilet, tanks and sinks, CAA has put a tub filled with water in the toilets. The passengers are also expected to bring along pots to use the water in the toilets since CAA didn’t even provide those.

“Jinnah Terminal toilets were filthy and stinky due to the non-availability of water. Water was provided in tub for toilets,” a passenger told.

Owner of the Kashmir Group, which runs different airlines, GSA Shakeel Aftab told ProPakistani that CAA is not providing proper services to passengers. They have even failed to provide a clean toilet to the passengers.

“CAA has no will to provide services to passengers despite the number of travelers at the airports going down every day,” he added.

CAA charges Rs. 1000 from passengers of First Class and Business Class flights and Rs. 500 from Economy Class flyers for international flights. For domestic flyers, CAA charges Rs. 100 as a passenger’s services charges.

After this incident, CAA explained that due to the leakage in pipes, the maintenance team cut-off the water supply. For the passengers’ convenience, the management provided a water tub and the water supply was restored after a short gap, stated CAA.
