PIA is Introducing New International Routes to Europe

The national flag carrier, Pakistan International Airlines, has decided to launch a new international flight route – from Sialkot to Paris – starting January 19.

The new flights will take place weekly and use a Boeing 777 to facilitate the exporters of Sialkot. The flights will take off from the Sialkot International Airport.

Notably, the PIA Chairman Air Marshall Arshad Malik had announced earlier that a number of direct international flights will be launched by January. The new flight destinations were said to include Danish and Norwegian capitals Copenhagen and Oslo, Spain’s Barcelona, and Italy’s Milan.

Other than introducing the new flights, the national airline has suspended seven routes because of huge monthly losses of Rs.500 million.

Apart from these measures, the PIA chief has vowed to bring back the glory of PIA. He told a group of journalists in an informal talk that PIA is framing a five-year plan for its revival. He said that the plan will be presented within three months.

The deteriorating condition of PIA has irked the Prime Minister and many other members of the cabinet. Finance Minister Asad Umar went on to call it a black hole for the economy. The Auditor General of Pakistan had also revealed before the Supreme Court that PIA had a faulty business model.
