HEC Takes Important Decision Regarding Unemployed PhD Scholars

In a meeting held on Thursday, all universities across the country have committed to review CVs of PhD holders uploaded on Higher Education Commission (HEC) website.

The meeting was arranged to improve the job quota for the unemployed PhD degree holders.

Recently, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University decided to offer jobs to 22 PhDs out of the 105 CVs in relevant disciplines, according to sources.

The HEC is hoping for similar decisions from other universities.

Building on this, a meeting was held by the HEC Chairman, Dr. Tariq Banuri, where all the relevant Program Coordinators at HEC were invited to “review the recommendations made by the representatives by the unemployed PhDs.”

The only obligations the degree holders have to fulfil is that they have to associate themselves with a university on honorary basis to apply for a grant.

The HEC has already collected data on unemployed PhDs. A target date of 31st January has been set by the HEC to launch an Academic Jobs Portal.

Furthermore, a number of other committees are being formed to improve the structure and enhance the quality of education in Pakistan.
