The construction work of two hydropower plants, under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is being completed, reported a national newswire agency on Monday.
The two dams are expected to add 1620 MW electricity to the national grid in the next three years.
According to APP, Karot Hydropower Station, with an installed capacity of 760 MW will be commercially operational by December 2021. The Karot power plant is situated at river Jhelum at a juncture of Azad Kashmir and Punjab province.
Suki Kinari Hydropower Station is situated at River Kunhar, Naran in Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The facility is installed with a generation capacity of 870MW and is expected to begin commercial operations in December 2022.
Including these two stations, six power projects are being built under the CPEC throughout the country.
These projects include Engro Thar Block-II coal-fired power plant, TEL Mine Mouth Thar Block-II coal-fired power plant and CPHGC coal-fired power plant.
The PMLN government had planned 15 energy projects under CPEC with a total generation capacity of 11,110MW. So far seven have been completed and are in operation.

The completed projects have added 3,240 MW to the national grid, which amounts to more than 11% of the total installed capacity of 29,000 MW in Pakistan.
