The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly decided to take legal action against the India-based IMG Reliance Group for suspending the production contract in the middle of the tournament.
IMG Reliance group had signed a contract with PCB to produce and broadcast all PSL 4 matches but decided to terminate the partnership following the Pulwama incident.
As per reports, the cricket board’s legal team is studying the matter and will soon make an official announcement in this regard.
Meanwhile, the board has appointed a local production company, Blitz and Trans Group to broadcast the rest of the league, PCB’s press release said.
Blitz is the PCB’s broadcast partners in Pakistan, while Trans Group is the event management partners.
Blitz and Trans Group will start their coverage when the matches resume on Wednesday, 20 February, and will continue to provide the same high-quality coverage which the followers experienced in the earlier games of the event, which kicked off on 14 February.
IMG Reliance had pulled out of the contract amid political pressure in the aftermath of Pulwama suicide attack that killed around 50 Indian paramilitary soldiers and injured more.
Commenting on the development, PCB’s Managing Director, Wasim Khan had termed it an unfortunate incident and had hinted to take up the matter with the BCCI and the ICC at the upcoming ICC committee meeting in Dubai later this month.
“The PCB always had a contingency plan in place, and we are confident we will be in a position to announce the new partner on Monday after the completion of the formalities,” PCB’s Managing Director Wasim Khan said.
