Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (IESCO) has disconnected the supply of electricity to 41 government departments due to non-payment of bills worth over Rs. 80 million.
IESCO has taken this step in lieu of a campaign against the electricity bill defaulters. The said departments include Doctors Hostel of Polyclinic, sub-office of Islamabad Chief Commissioner, PWD, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Capital Development Authority, DG Special Education, Ministry of Petroleum, and PTV.

The offices under chief commissioner Islamabad owe Rs. 7.845 million to the IESCO. PWD is a defaulter of Rs. 44.51 million, Doctors Hostel of Polyclinic Rs. 4.31 million, CDA Rs. 18.31 million, Ministry of Education Rs. 0.5 million, Ministry of Religious Affairs Rs. 5 million, and the Ministry of Petroleum is a defaulter of Rs. 3.91 million.
The campaign against defaulters is in full swing in all the five circles under IESCO. Also, the power supply company gives up to six-months’ of time before disconnecting power supply of government departments.
According to the IESCO officials, the power will be restored only after the payment of dues.
