Torrential rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have revealed a huge flaw in the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) design, as the underpasses and underground markets turned into water reservoirs in a matter of hours.
The lack of a drainage system was only recently discovered after recent rains in Peshawar. However, the businessmen of the province have learned this the hard way.
They lost merchandise worth of millions of rupees at the underground shopping area established by the government in the Arbab Road underpass.
People got hit by urban flood following heavy, continuous rain on Tuesday. The torrential rain made an entry in KP late at night and the provincial capital suffered urban flooding.

Most of the underpasses and underground market in University Town, Arbab Road, Ashnaghary, Haji Camp, and Gulbahar were loaded with rainwater.
Vendors on the BRT route areas had to pump out the water while they helplessly witnessed their merchandise wasting away.
The situation worsened due to the prolonged traffic blockade in the face of the roads becoming raging streams. Roads adjacent to KP Assembly Building, Pir Zakori Bridge, Haji Camp, and University Road were also flooded.
Notably, the administration officials have told the government many times that the BRT design has multiple flaws and has no drainage system.
