NEPRA Approves a Tariff Cut for April 2019

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a reduction of 04 paisas/unit for its revised electricity tariffs.

The power sector regulator approved the tariff reduction under the head of monthly fuel adjustment charges for the month of March.

According to the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), the electricity production cost from coal remained at Rs 6.97 per unit in March. Similarly, the power production cost from furnace oil, gas, LNG, and nuclear was at Rs. 11.35, Rs. 5.76, Rs. 9.84 and Rs. 1.1 paisas per unit respectively.

CPPA further stated that 20.04% of electricity had been generated from local gas supplies and 17.23% made from imported LNG.

The revised tariff price is expected to pass on relief of Rs. 280 million to power consumers across the country, except those served by K-Electric, from next month.
