2019’s First Heatwave Alert Issued for Karachi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Saturday issued a heatwave alert for Karachi.

The year’s first heat wave is expected to last three days from May 1st to 3rd, a statement from the Met office said.

The city’s temperature during these days will range between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius.

“Day maximum temperature would range in 40-42 C during this period. Winds flow will be from North/Northwest during daytimes,” said the statement.

PMD has asked the authorities and all stakeholders to take precautionary measures and inform the residents of the metropolitan about its heatwave updates.

Earlier, the office had ruled out the possibility of an unprecedented heatwave in the country this year, saying they have enough scientific evidence to support the claim.

However, the department didn’t write off a possibility of a heatwave stating that it would not be as severe as projected.

It should be mentioned here that the holy month of Ramadan is expected to start from May 7, and a couple of heat spells might hit the port city during the month.
