Shabbar Zaidi Appointed As Chairman FBR

The Pakistan Tehrike-e-Insaf (PTI)-led federal government has appointed Shabbar Zaidi as the new chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

Prime Miniter Imran Khan himself made this announcement on Monday while engaging with the journalist fraternity Lahore.

Previously, senior customs official Ahmed Mujtaba Memon was named for the post, but his appointment was postponed after the government received objectionable reports against him.

The move has come in the wake of the latest shake-up in the government’s core economic team – as Prime Minister forced former FBR chairman Jahanzaib Khan to step down and also demanded resignation from Governor State Bank.

While Reza Baqir was named as new SBP Governor on Saturday, the appointment of FBR’s new head faced a delay after Memon’s name was pulled out.

Who Is Shabbar Zaidi?

Shabbar Zaidi is a renowned tax expert and a Chartered Accountant. He has also served as the provincial caretaker finance minister for Sindh in 2013. A senior partner in A.F. Ferguson & Co., he also acted as the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and South Asian Federation of Accountants. He remained former Chairman, Professional Standard and Technical Advisory Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.
