Sony announced its new 2019 flagship, the Xperia 1, earlier this year. The device hasn’t even been launched yet and we’re already seeing leaks suggesting the successor (or a compact variant) called the Xperia 2.
Design and Display
For now there’s only a leaked image of the phone, and from the renders we can tell that the phone is almost identical to the Xperia 1. It has the same 21:9 aspect ratio Sony was seen experimenting with on the Xperia 1, but the screen size is smaller (6.1 inches).
It sports a glass back too just like the Xperia 1 and the only big difference at the back is that the triple camera setup has moved to the side instead of being in the center.
Other Rumored Specifications
The leak comes with other rumored specifications too. The Xperia 2 is expected to feature the same SD855 chipset with 6 gigs of RAM and storage 64GB or above. Unfortunately, a small cut down on the battery capacity is suspected. For a flagship-grade device with a big screen and resolution, a 3000mAh battery is an alarming prospect. The only unknown aspect of the phone is the camera and hopefully, Sony will have something new for us there.
However, these are only rumors and nothing is official as of yet so Sony could still very much throw us all off. The Xperia 1 is expected to launch next month so we’re probably not seeing the Xperia 2 until at least Q3 (July – September).
