Pakistan has issued 7000 e-visas so far, according to the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The authority has said that it received 9,931 applications for e-visa, out of which 7,160 visas were issued.
Moreover, 2,446 applications are still under review and 325 applications have been rejected due to technical reasons. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi had said that the recent visa policy will prove to be effective in promoting tourism and economic diplomacy.
He remarked that the policy has started bearing fruit already. People want to come to Pakistan now for business, education, and tourism. “We hope the policy sets the foundation stone for a stable economy,” he said.
On January 31, the then information minister Fawad Chaudhry said that e-visa facility will be given to tourists from 175 countries. “People from 98 countries can take advantage of the business visa facility. The government has opened Pakistan to boost tourism in the country,” he said.
On January 26, Pakistan reviewed its visa policy under which the government announced visa on arrival for 50 countries.
