Samsung’s first folding phone’s launch went sideways quite early. From the start, it felt like a roller coaster ride, whether it was the announcements, the hardware issues and finally the recall with several delays to its launch date. On the bright side, the wait might be over soon.
Samsung Display is the main supplier responsible for making the folding display for the phone. The company’s Vice President Kim Seong-Cheol, addressing a conference in Seoul on June 18th, said,
Most of the display problems have been ironed out, and the Galaxy Fold is ready to hit the market. The Galaxy Fold, when released, will receive a lot of attention in the market.
Since last month, we have been hearing rumors that the recalled Galaxy Fold might hit the markets around the globe in July. The rumors do seem to be true but unfortunately, we have not been informed about the exact launch date.
Samsung is no doubt waiting for the right time to make a formal announcement. Initially, the company reported two major points of failure for the Galaxy Fold:
- The screen protector like covering that most users tried removing.
- Holes behind the hinge joints that gave way to detritus.
Samsung was reportedly making improvements in both areas. It has allegedly tucked the screen-protector-like covering under the frame and narrowed the holes to reduce the gap between the display and the body of the device.
No matter how encouraging this is, we shouldn’t get our hopes up until an official announcement has been. We will keep you updated about the Galaxy Fold as the news comes out.
