What Austerity? KP Just Imported a Rs. 8 Million Car for a Minister

In a move that is a flagrant violation of a much needed frugal approach, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is importing luxurious vehicles for its ministers.

Media reports have suggested that a luxury jeep worth Rs. 8 million has already been imported for senior KP minister Shaukat Ali Yousafzai. Import of the modern 2800cc car is against the rule book, which only allows a minister to keep a 1800cc car.

Moreover, it is also against the austerity drive Prime Minister Imran Khan, and his ministers have been preaching.

Sources said that upon his request, the provincial cabinet had approved a double cabin for the minister worth Rs. 5.5 million, but he insisted on getting a luxury Fortuner.

While answering media queries, Shaukat said that he had to visit certain difficult areas where other vehicles often fail; hence, a 2800cc Fortuner was an appropriate choice.

It should be noted that just days after assuming the office, PM Khan had announced an austerity drive, as according to him, the country could not afford extravagant spendings.

He started with the auctions of all the excessive luxury and other vehicles parked in the prime minister house.

The federal and provincial governments also endorsed the decision and cut down their expenses.

However, such a move from KP minister may disgrace the efforts of the prime minister and will encourage other ministers to make similar demands.
