Imam-ul-Haq Has Been Unfairly Criticized: Inzamam

Former Pakistan cricket team chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq believes that his nephew, Imam-ul-Haq, has been unfairly criticized for maintaining his position in the national side.

Inzamam claimed that selection is based on merit and Imam has justified his position by delivering strong performances game in, game out.

People unfairly single him [Imam] out for criticism, instead of the other 25 players in the squad, because of his relationship with me. Imam is a valuable part of the side which is proven by his average, which is in excess of 50, in ODIs.

Speaking further about Imam’s selection for the first time for Pakistan’s side, he said:

When Imam’s name was being considered for selection, I left my seat during the meeting. Later Head Coach Mickey Arthur and Batting Coach Grant Flower requested me to include him in the squad.

He further added:

It is possible that I did not select players who should have been part of the Pakistan side but that was purely unintentional.
