Xiaomi has refreshed its Mi 9 lineup with the addition of the Mi 9 Pro 5G. It looks a lot similar to the vanilla Mi 9 that was unveiled back in February, but this time you get the Snapdragon 855+ SoC, faster charging, and up to 12 gigs of RAM.
As mentioned before, the Mi 9 Pro 5G looks almost identical to the Xiaomi Mi 9. You have the same 6.39-inch OLED panel and waterdrop notch at the top housing the front-facing camera. The screen comes with a fingerprint scanner on the display.
The triple camera setup at the back is on the top left corner in a vertical layout. The main lens has an LED light around the sensor, similar to the Redmi K20 Pro. The LED flash is right below the primary camera cutout.
One big upgrade to the phone’s design is its speaker setup. The Mi 9 Pro 5G has the largest sound chamber of all Mi smartphones, meaning that it should be louder and should sound better than its predecessors.
The device is equipped with the Snapdragon 855+ SoC with a CPU clock speed of up to 2.96 GHz. The 512GB storage capacity is coupled with 12GB of RAM. Storage can be bumped up further via a microSD card, not like you’ll need any more with 512GB already available.
The Snapdragon 855+ platform is optimized for gaming and promises to deliver persistent FPS in the most demanding video games, especially since it comes with the Adreno 64o GPU.
Camera specifications are no different from the Mi 9. It features a 48MP wide-angle module, a 12MP telephoto camera, and a 16MP ultrawide lens. The f/2.2 telephoto lens features 2X optical zoom and laster autofocus.
As for video recording, the cameras can record in up to 4K resolution at 60 FPS.
Upfront, it has a 20MP camera housed in the waterdrop notch.
Mi 9 Pro has greatly improved fast charging on its bigger 4000 mAh battery. The 40W wired fast charging can fully charge the device up in 48 minutes. Unlike other companies, Xiaomi has actually included a 45W fast charger in the box.
The phone also features 30W wireless charging and 10W reverse charging.
